Cosmic Opera – Groundbreaking Theatrical Nightlife
Project Description
For two years running, Arch played a major role in the visual and experiential design of Cosmic Opera – a massive and groundbreaking 3 Act Interactive Dance Party at Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC. The event was founded and produced by Justin Cohen, COO of The Summit Series and Summit at Sea and included collaborations with such legendary electronic music acts as Axewell (of Swedish House Mafia) and other large electronic music acts. Arch delivered custom rigging, prop fabrication, set design, geodesic domes, using upcycled/recycled materials and found objects to create eye catching and interesting displays throughout the Hammerstein Ballroom. Multiple hazers and lasers were employed by lighting design by Guy Smith in close consultation with Arch designers. Over 50 performers made use of Arch’s inverted thunderdome and custom aerial apparatus for performances.

Cosmic Opera is best described as a hybrid of extremely theatrical Cirque du Soleil-like performances and high-tech DJ shows like Miami’s Ultra Music Festival or Las Vegas’ Electric Daisy Carnival. But Cohen promises the two performances on Thursday and Friday will be unlike anything audiences have seen.
“The concept in my mind was not necessarily for a DJ event, it was for a new form of an event,” Cohen said. “I looked at the event industry and researched everything I could, from charity events and galas to DJ shows to festivals and found that there was a gap in the space.”
