“Gloy Stall” for SUPER FUNLAND at The Museum of Sex

Project Description

A gloryhole inspired variation on the popular arcade game “Whac-A-Mole” invented in 1976 in which scoring is awarded to the quick strike of pop-up plastic moles, players in the Glory Stall are likewise rewarded points for the quick grab and tug of colorful dildos that randomly emerge from the other side of the bathroom stall. High score is awarded to the player who can quickly grab and pull the most firing phalluses during the timed game play.

A six stall public bathroom sets the stage—four stalls host the scenic toilet stall game boxes for four individual players to compete—and two more stalls house the custom robotics, complex mechanics and hardware of the game itself. Each stall is adorned with colorful hand-painted graphics inspired from the heyday of Coney Island carnival culture and playful slogans that tease the action of game play. An elaborately themed header, reminiscent of colorful boardwalk facades, frames the game and houses the scoreboard.

The Museum of Sex explores the sexual origins of the carnival in a combination history and group-art exhibition, SUPER FUNLAND: Journey into the Erotic Carnival. The history gallery takes visitors from the carnival’s ancient bacchanalian origins to its evolution in pre-industrial Europe and the “midway” of the 20th century’s great World’s Fairs, describing how its licentious and permissive subtext has remained intact. The group art show tells this story in thirteen one-of-a-kind commissioned amusements created by an internationally renowned team of artists and designers, bringing themes of sexual carnality, decadence, and joy to a contemporary audience.
